About the Chamber of Commerce
What is a Chamber of Commerce?
A Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit membership-driven organization. It unites business, government, education, philanthropy, health care, and services, creating a central agency which lends itself to improving business and building a better community. The Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce was established in 1894.
A Chamber of Commerce enables businesses and individuals to accomplish collectively what none of them could do individually. Its strength lies in attracting the greatest number of individuals and firms into membership, thereby creating a pool of resources from which can be drawn energy, ideas, and funding.
A Chamber of Commerce gives direction to the business person's instinct to improve the market and their community. The successful Chamber is one that recognizes all the factors affecting the community and adjusts its programs accordingly.
The Chamber is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of respected leaders from around the community. See our Staff Listing to find out who serves you at your Chamber. Also, your Chamber of Commerce staffs a number of different committees where there are plenty of opportunities for community members to get involved.
