Ball State University is a premier institution of higher learning located in Muncie. Ivy Tech Community College is the nation's largest state-wide community college with single accreditation. It is the state's largest public post-secondary institution serving more than 150,000 students a year.
While students enjoy the benefits of a large institution, with 23 campuses throughout the state and an average class size of 22, students find personal attention close to home at Ivy Tech Community College. The Muncie campus is located downtown Muncie and in the Industria Centre Industrial Park on Cowan Road and is home to more than 4,000 students.

The pupil/teacher ratios locally are very favorable. This fact, supplemented by our numerous learning enhancement programs, means that students here receive attention and quality instruction so important to early education.
Two local high schools are among the best in the state, according to the 2013 U.S. News and World Report annual rankings of “Best High Schools.” On the list for Indiana schools, Burris Laboratory School came in at No. 3 and Yorktown High School is No. 10.
Muncie Community Schools, in cooperation with our public television station, WIPB-TV Channel 49, offers GED-On-TV, or the East Central Indiana Educational Development Project, can assist adults to receive the equivalent of a high school diploma
The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities is a residential high school for approximately 300 gifted and talented juniors and seniors from across the state of Indiana. The Indiana Academy is located on the Ball State University campus and is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges through the University Schools. The Academy has been nationally recognized as a premier educational institution for gifted and talented students.
Burris Laboratory School, a department of the Teachers' College, provides the development, demonstration, and dissemination of effective and innovative teaching practices, offers an exemplary pre-service clinical program for teaching majors, accommodates research and operates an educationally sound instructional program for its K-12 population. This mission is based on the belief that all students can learn and will be empowered to develop their fullest intellectual, social, artistic, and physical potentials. Burris has been rated by U.S. News as one of the top high schools in the country.
