Information Technology Initiative

Muncie-Delaware County Indiana plays a growing role in developing new technology initiatives within the Information Technology (IT) industry. The county is home to various IT businesses, including software companies Ontario Systems Corporation and AccuTech Systems Corp which maintain a clear focus on building a strong information technology workforce. Fortune 500 companies IBM and Sallie Mae employ over 1,200 people.

Indiana’s Telecommunication Reform Act has led to massive investments in broadband and fiber optic networks across the state. Indiana’s fiber optic network is among the best in the nation.

Indiana has a state tax exemption on partial income derived from federal patents for new technology or processes. Under the law, qualified utility and plant patents are exempt from taxation on certain income derived from patents. Indiana also offers a state Research and Development tax credit, which provides an exemption to companies on the amount they paid in state sales taxes on research and development equipment. The credit applies to laboratory equipment, computers, computer software, telecommunications equipment or testing equipment.
