Education and training are key to a quality workforce. Muncie is home to approximately 22,000 Ball State University students and more than 3,700 Ivy Tech Community College students. Graduates of both institutions are highly-skilled and motivated to work.

Ball State University

Ball State University is a premier institution of higher learning located in Muncie. Ball State students can choose from a comprehensive range of academic programs at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s levels, as well as doctoral programs– More than  than 76 master’s, 15 doctoral, and two specialist programs in seven academic colleges are available. In addition to core academic programs in the arts, sciences, and humanities, the university offers more than 190 bachelor’s, associate, and pre-professional degree programs and minor areas of study.

Ball State University is nationally ranked among the top 25 for best undergraduate and graduate programs in many fields.

Ivy Tech Community College

Ivy Tech Community College is Indiana’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving more than 170,000 students annually, the College has four campuses in East Central Indiana, offering nearly 40 degree programs within 8 academic schools.

Ivy Tech serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its communities and employers. While students enjoy the benefits of a large institution, with 45 campuses and sites throughout the state and an average class size of 22, students find personal attention close to home at Ivy Tech Community College. The Muncie campus is located downtown Muncie and in the Industria Centre Industrial Park on Cowan Road and is home to more than 3,700 students. Ivy Tech Community College’s Workforce Training offers local, affordable, and customizable solutions for Indiana business and industry training needs.

K through 12

From grammar to graduate school, from early education to continuing education, Delaware County offers excellent opportunities for students of all ages, abilities, and interests. Parochial and private day schools add to the mix of educational opportunities available.

The pupil/teacher ratios locally are very favorable. This fact, supplemented by our numerous learning enhancement programs, means that students here receive attention and quality instruction so important to early education.

Delaware County boasts three of the best high schools in the state ranked by the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Top Ten list. Included were Indiana Academy for Science (ranked #6), Yorktown High School (ranked #9), and Burris Laboratory School (ranked #11).

The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities is a residential high school for approximately 300 gifted and talented juniors and seniors from across the state of Indiana. The Indiana Academy is located on the Ball State University campus and is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges through the University Schools. The Academy has been nationally recognized as a premier educational institution for gifted and talented students.

Burris Laboratory School, a department of the Teachers’ College, provides the development, demonstration, and dissemination of effective and innovative teaching practices, offers an exemplary pre-service clinical program for teaching majors, accommodates research and operates an educationally sound instructional program for its K-12 population. This mission is based on the belief that all students can learn and will be empowered to develop their fullest intellectual, social, artistic, and physical potentials. Burris has been rated by U.S. News as one of the top high schools in the country.
