Muncie-Delaware County, Indiana Delegation Returns
from Successful China Trip
(Muncie, Indiana – September 27, 2013)  Local economic development officials recently completed a ten-day business marketing trip to the cities of Hangzhou and Zhuji City in China. The delegation consisted of James King, Delaware County Commissioner, Brad Bookout representing the Mayor of Muncie and Terry Murphy, Vice President of Economic Development for the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance.

The trip was comprised of meetings with business and governmental leaders. The delegation met with the Zhejiang Department of Commerce, Zhejiang Department of Foreign Affairs, Zhuji City Foreign Affairs, and other local Shaoxing County and Zhuji City officials.

The delegation also participated in the Hangzhou Biz Service Fair for two days, making contact with more than 40 businesses and consultants. A presentation on Muncie-Delaware County was made to approximately seventy-five potential companies and interested parties that are considering investment in the USA.

The delegation had one-on-one meetings with eight companies representing the transportation, alternative energy, agricultural, precious metals, environmental science and technology, and real estate sectors. They also attended meetings with consultants.

A “Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing a Sister School” between Muncie Central High School and Private Zhuji High School (also known as Hailiang International School) was executed. The document outlines potential activities to further relationships between the two schools.

“It is important that Muncie-Delaware County continue to build and maintain relationships in China if we hope to maximize the opportunities and benefits that will come out of their growing economy and expanding global presence,” said Terry Murphy. “This was an excellent trip. We had an opportunity to meet companies with projects, as well as meet new companies and consultants that may have projects in the years ahead,” he added. The China trip is part of Muncie-Delaware County’s ongoing “Asian Initiative.”
